How it is calculated
- Nisab = 85 g of 24-carat gold × today's price per gram.
- Net wealth = cash + gold and silver + investments + money owed to you − debts due now (if you enter them).
- If net wealth is at or above the nisab: zakat = net × 2.5% (Hijri year) or 2.577% (Gregorian year).
- If it is below the nisab, no zakat is due.

What is the nisab for zakat on money?
The value of 85 grams of 24-carat gold at the price on the day zakat is due.
What is the zakat rate?
2.5% for a Hijri year and 2.577% for a Gregorian year, as used by the General Authority of Islamic Affairs, Endowments and Zakat.
When is zakat due?
When your wealth reaches the nisab and a full lunar year passes on it, according to the UAE Council for Fatwa (WAM, 9 April 2024).
Is there zakat on gold jewelry I wear?
No. The UAE Council for Fatwa states that there is no zakat on gold or silver jewelry worn for adornment (WAM, 9 April 2024). Enter only gold and silver kept as savings or investment.
Should I subtract my debts?
Scholars differ on subtracting debts, so the field is optional. For special cases, ask the UAE Council for Fatwa.
